History of a Picnic

The history of picnics started back in the 19th century when they first became popular. It was a way for families to enjoy nature while sharing a meal. Throughout history, a picnic was seen as a symbol of leisure and community. Now, it continues to be a beloved activity of blending food, relaxation and the outdoors. Picnics have been known to be both fancy and laid back. As simple as enjoying a sandwich and some fruit outside or as fancy as a 5 course meal with champagne outside. Both are sharing a meal while in nature.

Importance of a Picnic

A picnic just has a way of blending nature with nourishment, whether on a sunny hill or a quiet park bench. I find picnics important because it allows me to take time to enjoy life’s simple moments. It also reminds me to slow down and savor both the food and the people I am with. Picnics also hold special memories from growing up. I grew up with eating many meals outside with my family during the summer, and going on vacations where we pack a picnic and find a place to enjoy the nature around us.
